Odyssey House 2018 Christmas Update

The Holiday Christmas Season was filled with joyous events for residents & staff both in and out of the Shelter.

Ms. Lowell’s Grade Two Class from Roy Bickel School, kicked off the holiday season by collecting mitts, toques, socks and other donations for the entire month of November to donate to keep mom’s and kids warm through out the winter season.

The annual Christmas Tea Event, took place at Odyssey House. Every year Christian Fellowship Assembly brings in high end tea sets, that are antique and every beautiful. Along with a unique selection of teas, and delectable snacks including cakes, cookies and dessert options for the residents at Odyssey House to enjoy at the beginning of the holiday season.

Ladies attended the Christmas Unwrapped Event at Generations Church. This was a holiday celebration with live entertainment, food & gifts.

Odyssey House residents also attended the Evergreen Community Support Supper, which is an annual event that provides a Festive dinner to all those in need in the City. Evergreen Park organizers of this event are kind enough to delivery the entire supper with all the fixings to Serenity Place and Odyssey House. Additionally, residents were able to enjoy the light show, free sleigh rides, bouncy castles and Santa Claus.

The Community Support Team took group participants and shelter residents to the Northern Spirit light show at Evergreen!

Mission Thrift Store provided a night of shopping for our residents and individuals accessing our community supports. They put aside new donated items for Holiday gifts for ladies to shop and take back to the shelter. There was goodies and gift wrapping as well!

Students from Charles Spenser hosted the “Gift of Giving” where students came to Odyssey House and offered manicures, hair styling services, and more self-care treatments. A photographer was on-site to take photos, and activities for the children were offered during this time, to let mothers relax!

Members of the community donated to Odyssey House enabling us to build Santa’s workshop, making it possible for kids to pick a gift in house for mom, Thank you to our Childcare Team & Night Shift Client Support Workers who decorated the shelter, did holiday crafts and made Christmas cookies.

The Pee Wee Stonebridge Hockey team came into Odyssey House to serve plated dinner & flowers to our residents over the holiday season.

Finally, our Health & Wellness Committee organized an Ugly Christmas Sweater Competition & Door Decorating contest to help staff feel the holiday spirit.

Thank you to everyone in the Grande Prairie Community who supports Odyssey House, by donation of gifts, food, time or monetary donations through out December & January it makes a large difference in the lives of our residents.
