Prevention of Family Violence Month 2018

The Prevention of Family Violence Network in Grande Prairie, held a meeting at Odyssey House in late October with the goal of preparing for November. November is National “Family Violence Prevention Month” in order to support and recognize the month the Network worked together to offer awareness events to public throughout November of 2018.

On November the 1st we kicked off the month by having a Proclamation reading at the Eastlink Center to declare the month the Prevention of Family Violence Network Organizations member were in attendance along with Elder Loretta to open with Indigenous Prayers. The proclamation was announced by City Councillor Dylan Bressey & Ross Sutherland from the County of Grande Prairie!
On November the 8th the Grande Prairie Storm Game at Revolution Place was dedicated to ending violence. Thank you to the Hitchem Oilfield Grande Prairie Bantam AA Storm for handing out purple ribbon’s to create awareness. Thank you to the Storm team players for sporting purple stickers on their helmets in support of Prevention of Family Violence Month .
On November 21st it was national #GoPurpleAB day, Local companies in Grande Prairie teamed up to wear purple and take pictures with the go purple sign to end violence. 
During the month we also had our Annual Breakfast with the Guys & Take Back the Night March which you can read more of on our blog. We believe that working within a collective impact model, we can achieve results and make our community a safer, more inviting place to live.
