Sisters in Spirit Memorial Walk & Candle Light Vigil with Grande Prairie Friendship Centre

Odyssey House supported the Grande Prairie Friendship Center this pasted October by attending the Sisters in Spirit Memorial Walk & Candle Light Vigil. This event is meant to honor the lives of the missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, support grieving families with opportunities for healing, and create movement for social change.

The event began with prayers and land acknowledgement and words from the representatives of government including Councillor, Eunice Friesen and Dean of GPRC Henry Anderson. Along with statements made by the important members of the organizing committee followed with a traditional drum circle and the singing of the women’s warrior song in front of the Grande Prairie Regional College main entrance. The walk finished at the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre for stew & bannock, open mic, and candlelight vigil.
