Success Story: Court Supports

March 3, 2019 Healing Heroes

“Equality” sought help from the Odyssey House Community Support Team to assist her with court support to get a parenting order. She had ended an abusive relationship two years prior and he was threatening to take their child from her, even though her ex-partner has remarried, he continued to harass and threaten her. Community Support worked with her to navigate the court system and worked on building up her self-esteem. Due to the severity of the abuse and the continued threats towards her, she was granted a parenting order and the judge allowed her to move out of the province to live near her family. She continued to work with our Community Support Team on recognizing abusive behaviours in partners, and in creating a better circle of support. She attended Odyssey House groups and learned more information that helped to build her self-confidence. Today, she is living out of province with her daughter and working for a medical clinic. She is surrounded by supportive family and is living free of abuse.

Thank you to the real life women behind “Equality”who share their stories.
