Education

Level 1 ECD Certification, minimum

Experience

Working with youth and children

Working with at-risk youth

Experience with program planning

Abilities

Comfortable working independently and as part of a team

Capable of organizing and leading off-site field trips

Creative and energetic

Good organizational and time management skills

Knowledge of family violence

Mentorship and coaching skills

Knowledge of Children’s First Legislation and CFSA regulations

Strong knowledge of social service community agencies and protocols for referral

Requirements

Criminal Record Check, C.Y.I.M., First Aid & CPR, and Suicide Prevention Training Program.

Reports to

Childcare Support Manager

Summary of Position:

Under the direction of the Childcare Support Manger, The Childcare Support Worker is responsible to administer activities for the resident’s children which takes into account their developmental and special needs, to make mothers aware of services of Family Resource Center and program activities available; completing appropriate documentation; ability to coach and mentor parents; knowledge of Children’s First Legislation and CFSA regulations; ability to represent Odyssey House and interact with member agencies professionally and effectively; knowledge of relevant agencies for referrals and effective case management.

Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize duties for effective and efficient resident care
  • Ensure all reporting and documentation is accurate, non-judgmental, culturally-inclusive, trauma-informed, women-centered and up to date
  • Ensure ethical standards of practice as detailed in the Alberta Women’s Shelter Guidelines are maintained
  • Ensure that families are supported by providing supports, referrals, and advocacy to meet the needs of each family’s situation and that adequate discharge planning is in place
  • Ensure the childcare facilities are kept to standards as set out by licensing
  • Work collaboratively with other departments of the Grande Prairie Women’s Residence Association to ensure best service delivery
  • Assist in the development of programming and facilitation of programming

  • Seek out, inquire, and engage in new opportunities and education in areas where development is necessary;
  • Participate in constant and consistent ongoing training opportunities.
