Last week Odyssey House was proud to be one of three cities in Alberta to launch a ‘Lift Her Up’ event. Thanks to those who came, if you were not able to attend, you can still get involved. “Equality” came to the shelter with her two young children. She had just left an abusive partner two months earlier, and had been staying with a friend.
“Equality” journey towards freedom from abuse took time. For the first year after leaving her partner, the abuse followed her.
“Equality” and her son were brought to us in the middle of the night by the RCMP. Neither spoke English, and this was their first time at a shelter. They were terrified.
Yes … it’s true, something BIG is coming to Odyssey House. What is it? Well that would be too easy to give away. It’s something we will continue to tease and share in the coming weeks and months. We’re excited about this! An opportunity to better connect with everyone in our community while creating an increased understanding of the important work that we do.
Volunteering. What does that mean to you? To some, it’s an opportunity to connect with their community and help give back to a noble cause. To some, it’s an escape from their daily life – a change of scenery, so to speak. For others, it’s about belonging – being a part of something bigger!
