Heather relocated to Grande Prairie from Vancouver Island at the beginning of 2019 where she began working as a Client Support Worker in our emergency shelter. Heather is originally from Ontario where she began working in healthcare at a young age and developed a passion for mental health care and human service. Heather graduated Practical Nursing at St. Lawrence College in 2013 and began working as an RPN leading a secure dementia behavioral unit in Waterloo, ON and working on funded projects to reduce violence and improve quality of life in long term care. While working in Waterloo she worked on a Behavior Supports Ontario team providing support and education to front-line caregivers working with older adults affected by dementia, mental health or other neurological conditions; led the CFHI (Canadian Foundation for Health Improvement) Anti-psychotic Medication Reduction Collaborative in that facility, working to find non-medication solutions to behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia. After a few years working in Northwestern Ontario at a remote/isolated hospital in the town of Atikokan, Heather moved to Vancouver Island where she worked as an LPN Supervisor for a non- profit Health and Home support Agency serving clients with complex physical and mental health needs. Heather looks forward to continuing to support vulnerable persons in her new role as Community Support Manager .
